Rules & Discipline
There are three rules in my classroom:
1. Follow directions the first time given.
2. Listen to the Speaker.
3. Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself.
I feel these are good rules to teach that your kindergartner can use throughout their school years. Any behavior that is not appropriate breaks one or more of these rules.
My classroom management plan is a card system. Each child will have 4 cards in a pocket chart. The card colors are blue, green, yellow, and red. The following is a brief explanation of each color.
· Blue – You are doing great!
· Green – Oops! Let’s get back on track.
· Yellow – Caution! Think about what you’re doing wrong. Consequence – lose 5 minutes of recess/playtime.
· Red – Stop! Time-out – A call home and/or a visit with the principle. Consequence – loose recess/playtime.
Every child will start each day with a blue card. If there is an undesired behavior taking place, I will first try to correct it with eye contact, moving closer to the child, or asking them to stop the behavior. If the behavior continues, I will ask the child to change their card to green. This is a warning. I will visit with the child to review appropriate behavior and expectations and practice briefly. Then, if the behavior continues or worsens, the child will be asked to change their card to yellow and then red. If a child works hard to turn their behavior around and has a good day overall, I will allow them to change their card back to the previous color. I will keep a chart, and at the end of the week if your kindergartner hasn’t had to change their card to yellow or red, he or she may choose a prize out of the treasure chest. As the year goes on, more and more will be expected of your child to keep their blue card. Please talk to your child…he or she should be able to tell you their card color each day and a reason for that color. I hope that this discipline plan will help prepare your child for their future school years.
